Diversity, Equity, And Inclusion Statement
Our Commitment
At Elder Love USA, we believe that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are more than just principles—they’re the foundation of who we are and how we care.
We strive to build a diverse team of caregivers and administrative staff who work together in an equitable and safe environment.
This commitment is fundamental to our mission of delivering compassionate care, as we believe that empathy for our clients begins with empathy for each other.
We acknowledge the historical marginalization of various groups in our community, which has impacted their opportunities in the workplace.
Our DEI initiatives aim to address these inequities by embracing all individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those of different genders, sexual orientations, physical and learning abilities, cultures, races, ethnic identities, faiths, and more.
We condemn all forms of hate, microaggressions, harassment, bias, racism, and homophobia, both within our organization and in society.
These behaviors have no place in our nonprofit and will be met with actionable consequences.
Our DEI initiatives are guided by the principles of L.O.V.E.
-
Learning: We learn from the histories and experiences of diverse individuals, examining our organization's biases and privileges. This includes regular assessments of our initiatives and current diversity situation.
-
Overcoming Inequities: We actively work to eliminate disparities and ensure equal opportunities for all.
-
Voice: We empower individuals to lead and speak up, especially in decision-making processes, ensuring that diverse perspectives are heard.
-
Engage: Our community events, meetings, and fundraisers to foster inclusivity and welcome diverse audiences, promoting community-wide engagement and socialization.
We're committed to regularly reviewing and refining our policies and practices, so we can keep moving forward together towards a more equitable and inclusive future.
For our founder, Shannon Shea, it's a deeply personal commitment born from her experiences as a social worker.
Through her work, she's learned about experiences she never knew existed and has come to understand the profound impact of privilege in her own life.
She understands how systemic barriers can hold people back from the very start, simply because of who they are or where they come from.
Most importantly, she believes that we should all try to level the playing field, so everyone has a fair opportunity.
